What can you eat and not eat with braces?
A brace improves the appearance of your teeth because teeth and molars end up in line. However, there are also a number of restrictions on braces, because it is no longer possible to eat everything. Fortunately, you can continue to take most during your treatment at the orthodontist. Which things can and cannot you eat during the treatment process? In this blog, we give you a number of examples of food items that can and cannot be eaten while wearing braces.
With a loose bracket, you can continue to eat everything, because the bracket is allowed out of your mouth during eating. However, it can be somewhat painful to eat shortly after placing the brace, as force is exerted on your teeth through the braces.
Food with a fixed bracket
A fixed bracket or the retention bracket from the second phase of the treatment process at the orthodontist does, however, entail a number of limitations. For example, orthodontists do not recommend taking hard food, as this may damage the bracket. For example, think of the crusts of a baked baguette, a hard apple, hard candy, and so on. When eating these foods, a rod may become loose behind your teeth, locks may break off on your teeth, and so on.
